Tell the DC Government to Stop Evicting Migrant Families!

Email Mayor Bowser, Deputy Mayor Turnage, City Administrator Donahue, and members of the DC Council Committee on Housing and tell them to stop the OMS evictions and to house families in the empty hotel rooms!

As hypothermia season approaches, the Office of Migrant Services (OMS) is evicting migrant families from their hotel shelters. Most of them report not being given any formal written notice telling them that they are being evicted and why. If families refuse to leave, OMS calls the police. OMS is not providing families with adequate transition supports and therefore many of them have nowhere to go, resulting in families with little children sleeping in cars or on the street in DC.

At the same time OMS is denying newly-arriving families access to the hotels. At most, they have been offered short-term shelter at other facilities, sometimes only for a few days. Since April 26th, no new family has been allowed into the hotels, despite 60+ families having moved out or been evicted. Why are DC taxpayers paying for empty hotel rooms while the government puts children out on the street?
